Blue Diamond Hill Gypsum is one of the largest and longest-operating gypsum mines in Nevada, spanning more than 3,000 acres and serving three essential market segments: wallboard, cement, and agriculture. With over 25 million tons of proven and probable reserves, the mine represents a critical domestic source of high-quality gypsum supporting construction, infrastructure, and agricultural productivity across the western United States.
Backed by an established on-site processing plant, Blue Diamond Hill has grown into a regional leader supplying Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada, with expanding reach into Oregon and Washington. The operation has produced more than two million tons of gypsum to date and continues to deliver a consistent, industrial-scale supply to long-standing customers.
Mining at Blue Diamond Hill dates back more than a century.
In 1924, the Blue Diamond Company of Los Angeles acquired the original site and overcame significant logistical challenges, including the construction of a dedicated rail spur to connect the mine to the Union Pacific line.
Production began in 1925 and expanded steadily through equipment upgrades, on-site processing, and workforce development. By the mid-20th century, the operation included a processing plant, mill, and a company-built town that became the present-day community of Blue Diamond, Nevada.
Today, gypsum is extracted from the Permian Kaibab Formation along the westward slope of Blue Diamond Hill, reflecting both the geological quality of the resource and the longevity of the asset.
